Samuel Allemann studied pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Basel and earned his doctorate in 2017. He also holds a Swiss federal diploma in pharmacy and worked as a clinical pharmacist for Solothurner Spitäler and as an expert for the Swiss pharmacists’ association pharmaSuisse. Following a postdoctoral stay at the University of Lyon I, he returned to the University of Basel, where he was appointed assistant professor in 2021 and associate professor in 2026.
Professor Allemann develops data-based approaches for personalized pharmaceutical care. His research combines pharmacogenetics, medication adherence and interprofessional medication management with the aim of making the use of medication in chronic and complex diseases safer, more effective and more suitable for everyday use. He develops and evaluates pharmacy-led services, digital support and monitoring approaches and new care models for primary care.
A particular focus is on the question of how personalized pharmaceutical interventions can be successfully integrated into routine care. His methodological approach combines routine data, electronic health data and various qualitative and quantitative methods.
