Swiss Multicentre Randomized Controlled Trial on different Limb Lengths in Gastric Bypass Surgery (SLIM)

Research Project  | 3 Project Members

Obesity and diabetes are rising rapidly, and bariatric surgery, particularly Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), is the most effective treatment for severe obesity. However, patient outcomes vary. This study investigates whether a longer biliopancreatic limb (BPL) in RYGB improves weight loss and metabolic outcomes without increasing nutrient deficiencies. A randomized trial will compare two groups with different BPL lengths and assess how bowel length impacts success. Mechanistic studies will explore how gut cells, immune responses, and microbiota interactions affect metabolism. The goal is to optimize RYGB outcomes and uncover potential targets for obesity and diabetes treatments.
