Personalized Medicine in Critical Care
Our goal and expertise lies in tailoring critical care treatments through the integration of clinical parameters and molecular data. By combining expertise in basic research and applied clinical science, we aim to advance personalized, equitable, and gender-sensitive approaches to critical care.
1. Biomarkers and pathophysiological insights in ARDS and cardiac biomarkers: Karin Wildi focuses on deciphering the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and the role of cardiac biomarkers such as troponin in critically ill patients. Her research leverages biomics technologies, such as transcriptomics and proteomics, to identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets that inform personalized treatment strategies in ARDS and other critical conditions.
2. Gender differences in critical care and bedside diagnostics: Under the leadership of Caroline Gebhard, our team investigates sex and gender differences in critically ill patients. We focus on gender disparities in the provision of ICU resources, treatment outcomes, the use of bedside diagnostic tools such as point-of-care ultrasound, and the development of gender-sensitive care strategies to enhance therapeutic efficacy.
3. Predictive modeling and real-time monitoring: Our combined efforts include the development of algorithms that leverage biomarkers, -omics profiling, and real-time clinical monitoring to predict disease progression, anticipate complications, and guide timely interventions. These tools enable faster and more precise decision-making in critical care environments.
