Animal bones from archaeological sites from Central Europe and the mediterranean region are used as an archive for the reconstruction of history of environment, nutrition, economy, craft and trade as well as human social and religious systems. For Central Europe (mainly Switzerland) archaeozoological data are available from Neolithic and Bronze Age lake dwellings as well as Bronze Age, iron age, roman, medieval and early modern dryland sites. This archive is also a valuable source for further scientific analysis such as ancient DNA or stable isotopes.
