We plan to study wave propagation in heterogeneous media both in the frequency and the time dependent regime. In particular, our aims are - to study via numerical simulation the limit problem, first in one and then in higher dimensions, and thus establish a deeper understanding of the dispersive response from the heterogeneous medium, and - to devise a heterogeneous multiscale method (HMM) scheme for wave propagation in strongly heterogeneous media, which should apply in more general situations without precomputing the analytical (homogenized) limit problem.
