African Support to Implement Comprehensive Peace Agreements and Transitions

The study examines how the AU, IGAD, ECOWAS and SADC support the implementation of framework agreements for transitions through continued mediation, guarantees and monitoring. It reviews the four organisations’ policies and structures, traces implementation support practices in peace processes, and compares commitments for third-party support in agreements. The postdoc project is financed by the University of Basel’s Fund for Junior Researchers. It was initiated with a Return Grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) as part of the project “Supporting the Implementing of Peace Agreements in the APSA”.
