Prof. Dr. med. Dr. sc. nat. Alexander Navarini is Head of Dermatology and Allergology at the University Hospital Basel and Professor at the University of Basel. His research interests focus on inflammatory skin diseases, particularly neutrophil-mediated dermatoses such as pustular psoriasis, pyoderma gangrenosum, Sweet’s syndrome, and acne.

Another key area of his work involves the application of artificial intelligence in dermatology. He develops image-based classification systems that automatically detect and quantify skin changes, such as assessing disease severity in patients with psoriasis.

Additionally, Prof. Navarini conducts research on genetic skin disorders such as Darier disease. His team uses 3D skin organoids to investigate pathophysiological mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic strategies.

His research is interdisciplinary in nature, combining clinical studies, molecular analysis, and computational methods to improve the understanding and treatment of complex skin conditions.
