My research focusses on using palaeoecological and palaeolimnological approaches for understanding the response of species, populations, communities and ecosystems to environmental drivers on a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. Since many organism groups are excellent environmental indicators, this work also provides detailed information on changing environments in the past, e.g. in respect to changing climate conditions or human impacts on ecosystems. We mainly focus on lake sediments as natural environmental archives and rely on a wide range of biotic indicators, such as chironomids, cladocerans, pollen, and diatoms, apply geochemical methods, and collaborate with colleagues using eDNA approaches.
