I am interested in the characterisation of gemstones and biogenic gems (e.g. pearls, corals) with a special focus on spectroscopic methods to detect treatments and the geographic origin of gems. In addition I am very interested to study the historical provenance and gems and their ancient trade routes. As I work mainly on high-value and/or historical items, my research is mainly based on non- and quasi non-destructive analyses.
