Computer-Assisted Surgery and Medical 3D Printing
Florian M. Thieringer holds the position of Chair and Full Professor of Oral and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery at the University Hospital Basel and University of Basel, Switzerland. He also manages the Medical Additive Manufacturing Research Group (Swiss MAM) at the University's Department of Biomedical Engineering (DBE).
With a focus on Tumor, Trauma, Reconstructive, and Orthognathic Surgery, Prof. Thieringer applies his expertise in the field of computer-assisted surgery and medical additive manufacturing. His work extensively explores the use of virtual surgical planning, 3D printing, and additive manufacturing of patient-specific implants in healthcare.
Since 2016, Prof. Thieringer has been co-directing the multidisciplinary 3D Print Lab at the University Hospital of Basel. He is also a Co-Principal Investigator for the MIRACLE 2 project, an ambitious research initiative aiming to develop a robotic endoscope for contact-free bone surgery with laser light.
Further solidifying his commitment to innovation, Prof. Thieringer is part of the executive & steering committee for the University Hospital Basel's "Innovation Focus Regenerative Surgery" project since 2021.
