Translational ortho-biology and biomechanical outcome research

Area of Research

Investigating degeneration of muscle, tendon, bone, and cartilage due to injury, malalignment, or disuse, especially in elderly and infection-prone populations.

Tissue Engineering & Regeneration:

Developing cellular grafts and bio-stimulative therapies for cartilage and bone repair in collaboration with the University of Basel. These constructs also serve as 3D models for studying cell differentiation and tissue development.

Biomechanics & Musculoskeletal Modelling:

Using motion capture, force and neuromuscular measurements, and wearable sensors to understand joint function and disease progression, and to optimize treatment strategies.

Outcome Optimization & Predictive Modelling:

  • Maintaining joint disease registries combining PROMs, CROMs, imaging, and sensor data.
  • Applying AI to predict treatment outcomes and personalize rehabilitation strategies.
